toshimitsu kōda’s snaps merge man-made rubbish with our natural world
Mother’s Day may already be over but every day is still a perfect day to celebrate and honour Mother Nature, especially since we really haven’t been the best children to our long-suffering planet as of late (or like, ever). Toshimitsu Kōda, a Japan-based photographer, explores humanity’s impact on nature by taking pics of decaying trash with vibrant flowers, aiming to highlight the growing issue of environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.
Toshimitsu Kōda’s work is undeniably fun and colourful, but the artist also asks us to “notice the poison” displayed by the rotting garbage that trap these beautiful flowers in their ugly grip, which is a pretty good metaphor for what we are currently doing to our fragile world.
