Truthfully, we’ve never considered the humble vending machine a thing of beauty, joy or mystery – until now. (Rather, it’s something we kick ever-so often when it doesn’t deliver that Twix we asked for.)

Edward Way – a Brooklyn-based, France-born shutterbug – saw things a little differently, so he took a voyage over to Japan to snap a series about Jidouhanbaiki – a particular type of vending machine installed on private properties so people can make a bit of spare change on the side. Who’d have thought the old food and beverage dispensers would make the perfect still life subjects? Take a peek at the pretty pics below, then head to Edward’s website if you fancy seeing more.
