Fashion trends come and go and inevitably circle back around, but there’s one fad that’s yet to make a modern reappearance: knee painting. In case you missed it, zhuzhing up your knees was a bit of a thing in the 1920s – at least, if you were a rebellious flapper looking to make a statement. Young women at the time were embracing a new freedom, breaking free from restrictive corsets and pushing boundaries with their cropped bobs, vampy make-up and shorter-than-ever skirts. For some girls, rolling down their stockings and dabbing on intricate designs was just another way of asserting their independence.
