you can visit a studio ghibli theme park in japan
If you’ve dreamt of stepping into the calming scenes of Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Howl’s Moving Castle, then prepare to have your socks blown off. Studio Ghibli, the animation studio behind these magical films, has opened a theme park in Aichi, Japan.
If you get a chance to visit Ghibli Park, you’ll stumble across a bunch of recognisable characters and buildings from the films. And while there are no rides (it’s the park’s intention for guests to “take a stroll, feel the wind, and discover the wonders”) there are plenty of exhibits, statues, gift shops, cafés and more. The park currently has three areas you can wander through – Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse, Hill of Youth, and Dondoko Forest – with Mononoke Village and Valley of Witches to open later this year.
You’ll need to buy a ticket in advance, as entry to the park is in high demand. Tickets for June 2023 will go on sale at 2pm, March 10th, Japan standard time, so you best set yourself a reminder and head to Ghibli Park’s website.
