you can now stay on the grounds of the palace of versailles
Earlier this month, the Palace of Versailles opened its very first on-property hotel. And, as you might have expected, the experience is gobsmackingly lavish. Named Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle, the hotel features 14 opulent chambrés (each named after an aristocrat) and is located in a historic building that dates back to 1681. In a move that'd make Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette proud, designers filled the place with original period furniture and décor, including gilded mirrors, chandeliers and luxurious clawfoot tubs. They even enlisted an art historian to pick out the paintings and hired butlers to wait on every guest. Now for the cold, hard reality: experiencing all of this will cost you 1700 euros a night (and that's just the starting price). But let’s pretend for a moment that money is no object and simply enjoy the view from our screens as best we can.
