We’ve all taken inspiration from vintage fashion, but few of us are as dedicated to nostalgic style as New York photographer and video maker Maris Jones. With the snap of her fingers (and some editing magic), Maris transforms herself from a ’50s housewife to an ’80s glamazon right before our eyes. Her videos – hosted on Instagram and Tik Tok – have gone a wee bit viral, not only for the eye-catching outfits, but because Maris gives us the full retro package: carefully staged set design, spot-on soundtracks and completely transformative make-up. In short, she’s a total chameleon and you may lose an hour of your day admiring her work. If you’ve lived through cringey, burn-the-photos fashion moments, Maris might strike you as just another millennial looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses. She completely acknowledges this, saying that her videos represents an idea of what a time period was like, rather than what it actually was. “It’s somewhere between a cartoon dream and real life,” she told i-D UK.
