kooky ceramic fruit by kaori kurihara

By

Osaka-born, Paris-based ceramicist Kaori Kurihara is in the business of making strange fruits that look like they could have come straight from a Dr Seuss book. Initially inspired by the thorny durian of Southeast Asia, Kaori creates her ‘imaginary fruits’ by taking bits and pieces of real-life plants and combining them to make entirely new ceramic plants, which are often painted in lovely hues of pink, green and blue.

Peer at Kaori’s creations long enough and you’ll find plants from everywhere: tropical fruits like pineapple, desert cacti, and even some Aussie influences (spot the prickly fellow with the quandong seed sprouting out of him and the banksia-like flowers). Spy more of Kaori’s work over on her website and Instagram, and watch her explain her creative process below.
