heading to italy? consider staying in this remote bee house
If you intend on spending a night or two at beekeeper Rocco Filomeno’s property in southern Italy, you can expect to have to share the accommodation with a few winged guests. You see, the nine apiaries that are attached to the exterior of the hive-ish abode are occupied by more than 1 million working bees.
Artist Davide Tagliabue (who goes by the name metrocubo) built the structure on Rocco’s olive farm in 2022, with the help of 25 local volunteers and a crowdfunding campaign. Rocco then listed the building on Airbnb in time for World Bee Day, so that proceeds from bookings could be donated to bee conservation projects. Outdoorsy Italian olive groves, bee-saving shenanigans, and total serenity? That ticks all our boxes. Have a squiz at Airbnb for more info.
