bid on colourful wombats designed by local artists
Some wombat facts: they sleep on their backs with their legs in the air when they’re relaxed, they use their rock-hard bums as a weapon, their poos are cube-shaped and they can run at speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour. In other words, wombats may be downright adorable, but they wouldn’t make the best pet. Plus, keeping one in your abode would probably classify as animal cruelty, which is just what our friends at RSPCA Victoria are trying to stamp out with their new exhibition, Wombat in the Room.
The exhibition marks the 150th anniversary of RSPCA Victoria (while highlighting the fact that animal cruelty still exists) by showcasing 30 impressive wombat sculptures that have been designed and painted by Australian artists. From today, you can visit the wombat sculptures at RSPCA Burwood East (or virtually), before they’re put up for online auction on March 7. Funds raised through the auction will be used to care for the animals in RSPCA Victoria’s shelters, which is always a good reason to splash some moolah about. Plus, if you’re lucky, you could take home one of these bad boys for yourself. Find out more about the exhibition and how to bid over here.
