a mind-bending bookstore

By

An interdimensional trip is usually reserved for the pages of a sci-fi novel, but in Chengdu, China, you only need set foot in the Dujiangyan Zhongshuge bookstore. Filled with impossibly high archways, a grand spiral staircase and maze-like shelving, the mind-bending bookstore is basically an M.C. Escher drawing come to life. Thanks to the clever use of mirrored ceilings and dark flooring, the towering shelves look as though they stretch out into infinity (despite the building being only two storeys high). The magical labyrinth was designed by Architecture firm X+Living and inspired by the local region's river system and man-made dam. And if you’re wondering how anyone reaches the books on the uppermost shelves – well, it turns out those books aren't real, but merely decorative prints.
