These delicate sweets will go down a treat with your finest green tea.

There’s a real art to wagashi. The Japanese sweets, traditionally served with tea and brought out during celebrations, can be intimidatingly beautiful with their intricate forms (just check out these impressive examples). But fear not, because today is not the day to attempt to sculpt a flower from a blob of mochi. Today is the day for trying Bonnie Eng from Thirsty For Tea's much simpler recipe for sakura mochi, a delicate wagashi that's dyed with beetroot juice and gently wrapped in a cherry blossom leaf. Brew up your best matcha to accompany it and you've got yourself a very swish afternoon tea indeed.
