Here’s what pop cultural icons might look like as giant, decayed robots.

Prague-based 3D artist Filip Hodas has flipped the shininess of pop culture on its head with Pop Culture Dystopia, his new series of digital paintings that depict pop cultural icons (including Hello Kitty’s face, the Coca Cola can, the McHappy Meal box and more) as giant, decayed robots. Filip says he was inspired to create the series with the simple aim of mastering the digital medium “to learn how to use substance painter and implement it in my texturing workflow”. But the images are far more than displays of visual prowess. They’re intriguing, they’re cool, and they make us feel rather differently about those mushrooms in Super Mario.
