We dig the idea of foliage sprouting from unexpected places, which is perhaps why the picNYC table has got us all excited.

We still maintain that the best primary school science project was the one where we were asked to grow our own 'grass head'. Aside from allowing us to play hairdresser to an unassuming old stocking, we dug the idea of foliage sprouting from unexpected places - which is perhaps why the picNYC table has got us all excited.

The grassy furniture comes from the creative mind of Dutch designer Haiko Cornelissen, and features an aluminium base topped with layers of soil, pebbles and grass sprouts. Besides looking rather nice, the whole point is to bring a little piece of rural life to the city - or into the inner-city apartment, to be precise.

It's also a neat way to feel like you're picnicking outdoors on a rainy day, and for that we give Haiko a grateful round of applause. Plus, it radically reduces the need to wipe up post-meal! Head here to see a video of the table in action, as well as more of his intriguing projects.
