Finally there's a way for all you sweet-toothed senoritas out there to get your sugar fix while keeping the dentist away.

Finally there's a way for all you sweet-toothed senoritas out there to get your sugar fix while keeping the dentist away. These gumball-inspired pom pom hair pins aren't made from candy, but they're just as sweet. We're imagining them nestled in a Heidi braid, or stuck in the top of a high pony tail.

MATERIALS

pastel and white wool
fabric scissors
bobby pins
pom pom maker (The secret's out! The key to a great pom pom is a pom pom maker! Try one from Clover - you can find them at craft stores or online. We used the teeniest size you can get.)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Open up the arms of your pom pom maker. Starting on one side, wrap a layer of white wool around them.

2. Snip the white wool and wrap a layer of yellow wool on top. Snip wool again and continue by wrapping a final layer of white wool on top of this.

3. After cutting the wool once more, close up the arms of the pom pom maker on this side.

4. On the other side start by wrapping a yellow layer of wool around the arms of the pom pom maker. Repeat Step 3 with a white and then yellow layer of wool.

5. Snip the final layer of wool and close up these arms. You should have a little bundle of wrapped wool concealed in your pom pom maker.

6. Slip the blades of the fabric scissors into the groove between the two faces of the pom pom maker. Snip around the entire bundle, using the groove as a guide.

7. Wrap a piece of string around the groove, pulling tight. Finish off with a double knot.

8. Gently prise the two faces of the pom pom maker apart to free your pom pom.

9. Give your pom pom a little haircut, shaping it with fabric scissors until it is perfectly round (or as close as you can get!) With the excess strands of tying wool, thread through the loop in a bobby pin and tie in a tight double knot to secure. Snip the excess wool.
