all the sessions we’re watching at the makers in business online symposium
The Makers in Business Online Symposium is fast approaching, so we thought we’d give you a rundown of some of the rad stuff that’s happening.
Calling all artists, makers and small-business folk: time is running out to nab a ticket to the Makers in Business Online Symposium, running from August 5th to 6th. More than 30 creatives will share their expertise over the course of the two-day event, including our very own editor, Emma Do, and assistant editor and digital editor, Shannon Jenkins. There's heaps to see (it’ll all be recorded – phew!), so we've gathered a few program highlights for you to peruse.
MAINTAINING CREATIVITY
Host Rachel Burke (aka @imakestagram) will be joined by artist Pete Cromer, maker Shuh Lee and jewellery designer Heidi Helyard for a panel discussion about finding inspiration and maintaining creativity during tough times, how to get out of a rut, and finding your creative signature.
CULTURAL RESPECT
In this panel session, community leaders Maryann Talia Pau (of One Billion Stars), Troy Casey and Amanda Hayman (of Blaklash Creative and Magpie Goose) will discuss how makers can show respect for Pasifika and First Nations cultures, as well as topics like performative allyship, licensing, cultural appropriation and more.
BRANDING FOR MAKERS
Branding and graphic design whiz Tess McCabe will delve into everything you need to know about branding, including brand values, identity, communications and cohesion in brand expression. The panel will feature Lauren Hassett (Middle Child), Ashley Dyer (Uncle Phuncle) and Sarah Stanford (Novelise).
PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY USING YOUR PHONE
Talented shutterbug Rachel Kimberley will present step-by-step instructions on how to shoot your wares using only your phone and a couple of nifty apps. Rachel will also answer all your burning questions about product photography.
ARTISTIC ACTIVISM
Host Amy Clarke (Confetti Rebels) will be joined by artist Jess Harwood and Kara Cooper (Mount Vic and Me) to chat about utilising your art to make the world a better place.
