tree huggers

By Emma Do
6 August 2019

Botanical artist Christophe Guinet gives trees a big leafy embrace.

It’s funny to think that the term ‘tree hugger’ was once considered an insult. No longer is caring for the environment a fringe, hippy pursuit – we have an entire planet to save from climate change, haven’t you heard? It’s these pressing environmental issues that botanical artist Christophe Guinet (aka Monsieur Plant) hopes to highlight with his collection of tree sculptures. Christophe cast each arm together with local residents in Annecy, France and ‘vegetated’ them with real green matter. If you’re lucky enough to be in the country right now, drop by the Gardens of Europe in Annecy to give these natural giants a big human embrace.
