square, pink and lovely

These utility box makeovers by Abbie Paulhus prove that every city could do with a public sign of affirmation or two.

For those of us who may have a hard time accepting compliments and heeding calls to be gentler on ourselves, a utility box might be just what we need. Earlier this year, Las Vegas artist Abbie Paulhus was commissioned to transform five drab steel boxes across her home city. Drenching the boxes in warm shades of pink and orange, Abbie also decorated each with a special hand-painted message, reminding passers-by to breathe easy.  It never hurts to hear that you're doing just fine, even if it comes from an inanimate object on your way to the bus stop. See more of Abbie's work here.
