reflections by jessica backhaus

Finally, photos of reflections that aren't cringeworthy.

We know, we know, photos of reflections in a body of water are an artsy trope as old as time. But, before you run away screaming “no more pictures of puddles!”, take a minute to absorb the work of German photographer Jessica Backhaus. Her 2010 series “I Wanted to See the World” turns the cheesy genre on its head. Thankfully, there are no mirrored mountains here – only abstracted, Dali-esque buildings and strange rivers of molten metal.
