Have you ever heard of lover's eye jewellery? A couple of hundred years ago, romantic types would have their eyes painted daintily onto pendants, lockets and other bits of bling, and would then gift them to their sweetheart. (Can you just imagine if your Tinder date attempted to give you a portrait of their eyeball? Then again, folks in the 1700s didn't have pics of their partner as their phone wallpaper.)
