once upon a blythe

By Sophie Kalagas
18 February 2015

30 international artists have taken the iconic doe-eyed Blythe doll and given it a wardrobe rejig – not to mention a colourful (and ever-so-slightly creepy) makeover, as well.

Darting, pleating and hemming clothes are difficult skills to master when it's for regular human-sized bodies, but scale those garms down to doll-size and we have an even greater appreciation for those nimble-fingered seamstresses. That's why this exhibition is so darn impressive: 30 international artists have taken the iconic doe-eyed Blythe doll and given it a wardrobe rejig – not to mention a colourful (and ever-so-slightly creepy) makeover, as well. The exhibition is called Once Upon A Blythe and kicks off at Melbourne's Auguste Clown Gallery on Friday February 20th, but you can catch it any day until Monday March 9th. If you're keen to head along (and don't suffer from a case of pediophobia), you can find out more about the show over here.
