courtney mattison’s seashell art
A pretty little preview of what might happen if climate change causes tropical sea creatures to come to land.
See, there is a point to collecting seashells. Especially if you’re a particularly ingenious marine conservation biologist-turned-artist, like Courtney Mattison.
The San Francisco-born, Denver-based lady hand-sculpts ceramic works inspired by the fragile beauty of coral reefs. For this installation, Aqueduct, Courtney made hundreds of porcelain corals, anemones, sponges and other marine invertebrates, and artfully arranged them to look as if they were spilling into the room – which is actually what might happen if climate change causes tropical sea creatures to come to land. Though, we doubt the results of that particular apocalyptic scenario would look anywhere near this pretty. Have a squiz at Courtney’s website to see more of her work.
